Formula
Formula (quarterly compounding): A = P × (1 + r / 4)^(4 × t) Variable definitions: • A = Maturity amount (INR) • P = Principal / deposit amount (INR) • r = Annual interest rate in decimal (e.g. 7.5% → 0.075) • t = Tenure in years (1, 2, 3 or 5)
How it works
The Post Office FD (also called the Time Deposit, TD) is a Govt-backed fixed deposit offered by India Post for 1, 2, 3 or 5-year tenures. Interest is computed quarterly and paid annually.
Example
Example: Example: ₹1,00,000 in a 5-year Post Office FD at 7.5%. A = 1,00,000 × (1 + 0.075/4)^(4×5) A = 1,00,000 × (1.01875)^20 A ≈ ₹1,44,995. Interest earned ≈ ₹44,995.
