No. This is a gross return. Subtract brokerage, STT, exchange and GST charges, and any applicable short- or long-term capital gains tax to get the net return.

What about dividends received?

Dividends are excluded. To include them, add total dividends to the profit before computing the return percentage.

How is percentage return calculated?

Return % = (Selling Price − Purchase Price) / Purchase Price × 100. It is a simple holding-period return, not annualised.

Is short-term capital gains tax applicable?

In India, equity sold within 12 months attracts STCG at 20% (from July 2024); LTCG above ₹1.25 lakh is taxed at 12.5%. Confirm latest rates with a tax adviser.
